RE: Help with 12 volt solution

If you are just looking to run a TV and DVD player and are the ultimate in cheap like I am, you can get one of these inverters for 17.95. DieHard 140 Watt inverter I just saw this deal the other day at my local Kmart and could not take my wallet out of my pocket fast enough. I got the last one on the shelf. This inverter will work for most lcd tv's and DVD players, providing you are not trying to power a 65 incher or something like that. My LCD TV draws 40-50 watts and the sat receiver draws about that too. This inverter powers my satellite receiver and 19 inch LCD TV just fine. You can't beat a total cost of 17.95 and a total installation time of 5 seconds.

RE: Alternative for Charging your Battery

I think for two grand I will keep going through batteries at the rate of one per year. Good Grief.

RE: CO Dog Leash Laws - My Reply

I am not sure why it matters if the dog was on a leash or not so long as you are playing with it away from the road and other people. Now if the dog is running down the road and through other's campsites loose, then yes, he needs to be leashed. Come to think of it, this could be applied to children too.

RE: Full time utilities costs

Wow, I am an electricity miser. I have single pane windows, but only have to heat and cool 20 ft. Don't have a W/D and DO NOT USE ELECTRIC HEAT. Propane is way more cost efficient in my experience. Average Electric Bill for 2008 has been 19 Dollars a Month. Average Propane Usage is less than 1 20# tank per month. (more tanks filled in the winter, hardly any during the summer) So about 8-9 dollars a month averaged out for propane. When I am at the trailer I usually have an LCD TV, Satellite Reciever, and laptop computer going. I have actually had an environmentalist tell me that I was wasteful hauling my trailer all over the country. Hmmmm.

RE: Routers & Aircards

It seems as though anything cardslot, being an aircard or anything else now is getting to be rarer due to the rise of USB 2.0. USB 2.0 can transfer data faster than cardslot (does not matter with an aircard, you will never find a tower that fast), and the form factor is so much more convenient. Many of today's computer are coming without any type of cardslot ala Macbook, Dell MINI, Asus EEE, etc. Every modern computer I have ever seen has a usb port. The next aircard I buy will be USB. I have a Sierra Wireless PCMCIA 875 Aircard now with ATT. Got speeds of 2700 Down and 500 Up last night in Lubbock, Tx on 3g.

RE: Motorhomes in Aspen, Colorado? NOPE

She kidded me about my motorhome purchase. But, I think she and her husband were secretly interested in our travels. Funny thing tho, the people with money there didn't drive fancy cars (that I saw). MM. I do not think that Aspen is "home" for very many people judging by all the private jets at the airport on the west side of town. Also, having a Bentley and A Rolls Royce in Aspen would not make sense in ski season. (Probably the reason that many of the rich come to Aspen) Therefore, they have to have an SUV with 4wd to get through the snow. The amount of Land Rovers and G-Wagons in town would make Ford Motor Company and Mercedes proud. Also, the town police force uses all Volvo XC-90 SUVs as their police vehicles. I have never seen a police force use anything but Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge. The Town was very beautiful, but this is a look and leave town. Unless you can afford Gucci, Prada, and Armani (yes, these shops are in town) then you most likely will not find anything of interest on that front. We ate lunch at the cheapest place we could find in town, a Deli. 2 Subs and 2 Drinks was right around 40 dollars. This was one of the few places that had its prices on the menu. I also got a kick looking at the Hybrid Car only parking spots in front of the local grocery store. Guess people were trying to offset their carbon usage from their jets? :h Bring $$$.

RE: Motorhomes in Aspen, Colorado? NOPE

Too bad - probably would have spent a few bucks. It is impossible to spend a few bucks in Aspen. If you are going to spend bucks there, they will be big bucks. I had a nice experience driving through Aspen as well with a full size pick up truck and a travel trailer. A lady in a Volvo SUV even stopped and informed me that I was in her way, and that I better move out of it. She said this with her nose high to the sky. On a side note, did you see the Aspen airport right outside the west side of town? I have never seen so many private jets in one place before. Must have been 100-150 or maybe even more. This town is not for us common folk, or even the millionaires among us. This town is truly a playground of billionaires or celebrities.

RE: Front or rear bed?

Does not matter to me I have found no matter how I park the view seems to always be in the wrong direction. This man speaks the truth. If you get a rear living room, the view of the mountains will be out the front, and the view of the park sanitation pond will be out the rear. If you get a front living room, expect the reverse.

RE: I forgot my camera!!

I have also seen this Tundra phenomenon. Saw one here towing about a 30-32 KZ Sportster Toy Hauler 5th Wheel. The truck must have had airbags, because it was not squatting too bad. The tires looked loaded down though. Maybe the weight police are giving the Tundra half ton a free pass because it is a Toyota? As we all know, Ford and Chevrolet's fall apart once you take them off the dealers lot, so only the Tundra can tow large travel trailers and 5th wheels safely.

RE: searching for best long distance phone card rate

Even if you bought a phone card, where would you use it? Around here, pay phones have all but disappeared. You can still find a pay phone in the "little mexico" parts of town in Texas. Of course, these parts of town are not exactly what the local chamber of commerce wants you to see. They are very popular there for calling back home to Mexico. Just get a prepaid cell phone. It may end up costing a few cents more per minute, but the gas required driving around looking for a pay phone will be more expensive than a few cents per minute on a pre paid cell phone.

RE: Plasma vs. LCD televisions

Wayne, I think you've got it backwards....LCD is more positional sensitive than Plasma. At any rate, the Plasma (57" Panasonic) I have in the house is pretty heavy, but what a beautiful picture! LCD would be the way to go in a mobile rig....IMHO. Nope, Wayne has it right. Plasmas are extremely position sensitive because of the reflective glass on the front of them. I would think that a Plasma would be a no-no in an rv due to the bumps and shocks of going down the road. One good ride on I-10 in Louisiana and I could see 60" of the solid glass on a plasma breaking.

RE: Is Wallmart trying to tell us something?

Yes, that someone will buy this for 1/2 of what a gallon of gas costs today, set it on their mantle and remember the good old days. In other news, the Wal Mart here had Ramen Noodles on the shelf right when you walk in the front door. You know times are tough when they are displaying Ramen.

RE: Digital TV On The Road - Your Experience

Can usually always lock on to more digital channels than analog channels. This was true from Texas to North Carolina. In southern New Mexico I was even able to lock onto Mexican Digital Channels. Too bad they played soccer 24/7. The real problem is that there is never anything to watch. I also have a satellite dish, and for the most part the TV stays off except for College Sports games. There is absolutely nothing compelling to watch. In 10 years, I do not think cable and satellite TV will exist. There is simply nothing interesting on, and what is interesting you can usually find to watch online. (ESPN360.com)

RE: What are the advantages of Apple over PC?

The OP did state, though, that since retiring he's gotten into digital photography and that's where the Mac shines over PC's is in the graphics and photo arena - which, again, is why Hollywood uses the Mac over PC. If I clicked the same buttons on Sony Vegas or whatever the movie studios use nowdays on both the PC and MAC, I would have the exact same output. Your computer choice WILL NOT make you a better movie maker, photographer, web designer, etc. That is all in your mind. I am sure some in Hollywood use MACs because they are "cool." I am sure that is why many personal users use them as well. I am also sure Hollywood drinks Evian water, rides around in Bentleys, and eats Cavier for breakfast. If we all did what Hollywood did, this would be one screwed up country.

RE: Here comes Kyle, stay or go?

LOL, you have to love the fire alarm pullers here at RV.net. Has anyone even looked at the track of this Cat 1 Hurricane? The only land it will hit is sparsly populated land in Canada, and even then it is predicted to be a Tropical Storm when it hits. Got to love it when people from Michigan and Nebraska, etc are giving advice about hurricanes based on what they have seen on the "FOX EXTREME WEATHER CENTER!!!!" or its CNN equivalent. My family evacuated from Hurricane Rita. Know how many deaths were the result of a direct hit from the hurricane? 7, yes 7. Know how many died in the evacuation process? 113. The media has gone too far. If the hurricane is a Cat 4 or 5, yes everyone needs to be out. But going crazy when there is nothing to go crazy about, when 40-60 MPH winds are predicted to hit an sparsely populated province in Canada is when people die.

RE: What are the advantages of Apple over PC?

You guys are not making sense now. Of course you can run MAC OS 9 on a 9 year old computer that was designed for it. I can turn on my 286 and have it run Windows 3.1. I am not getting what that has to do with picture here. Try running Mac OS 9 on a modern MAC computer, or even on a newer PPC computer. You can't. The version of MAC OS that comes on your computer is the one you will have. You cannot downgrade a MAC. I tried. You can theoretically buy a new computer and downgrade it to Windows 98. Now then, I am sure Windows 98 is not going to be compatible with a quad core processor, 6 GB of RAM, SLI graphics cards, etc, etc, but I am sure if you went down to the store right now and bought a celeron single core with 512 MB of RAM, Windows 98 would work just fine. Yes, Vista will not install on a machine that does not meet its minimum system requirements. What would you have Microsoft do, make each operating system fit on 6 floppy disks so that Windows 3.1 users can upgrade to Vista. A line has to be drawn in the sand somewhere.

RE: What are the advantages of Apple over PC?

and the constant exposure to their idiotic business decisions that forces their user's to upgrade their machines or die. The malware infection was the straw that broke this camel's back. ) LOL, you have another thing coming if you think that Microsoft does this. Just wait a couple years when you cannot upgrade to a new Mac OS. You will probably run here crying. You are free to run Windows 98 or Windows Vista on the same computer, so I do not understand this point.

RE: What are the advantages of Apple over PC?

Most PC users that I know are still using XP. Most people I have spoken with do not care for Vista. My comment after seeing the Microsoft 'Mojave' commercial was that Microsoft was having to trick people into running Vista.;^) I see this time and time again daily in my job in IT. People will ask for a computer with XP on it instead of Vista. "Vista is horrible," they say. When I ask what is so horrible about it, they usually cannot name one thing. Then I ask them if they have ever used it. "No." Much is the "Vista is terrible" thing is hype, they have heard this from a friend of a friend who was probably a mac user. I will admit that Vista has its shortcomings and things I do not like. So does Windows XP, and so did Mac OS X. Vista also has many things I like, as do all the other operating systems. Working in IT, I am especially fond of the TRUE plug and play capabilities of vista. Just plug your new hardware in, and Vista will automatically go on the internet and see if it can find the drivers for you. (most of the time it can) You do not have to install anything or even lift a finger, everything is automatic. What is important though is that whatever you buy, MAC or PC, at the end of the day, the output is the same. A Mac will not make you a better graphic designer, either will a PC. Bet I get some comments from Mac users with that statement.
